ILF Translations Series on the Women’s Day 2017 celebrated Ambai (Dr.C.S.Lakshmi) Tamil writer, historian, and institution builder. The programme also probed into the model of archiving practiced by Sound and Picture Archives for Research on Women (SPARROW), an influential organisation founded by Ambai in 1988. The evening had the witty author in a soulful exchange with literary editor Karthika VK, leading to readings from SPARROW’s translated work by film historian Vijaya Mulay, and Apoorva Sahay Aarzoo from the theatre society of Gargi College Delhi. The evening concluded with a moving performance of Ambai’s play Crossing the Rivers (Hindi/30mins) by the Natyadharmi Theatre group, directed by K.S. Rajendran.
